We analyse data on the economically active population of Karelia at the regional level and in comparison with other regions of the Northwestern Federal District of the Russian Federation. The effect of various factors influencing the economic activity of the population has been detected. Measures to promote the economic activity of the population through management of employment and entrepreneurship are suggested.
