The article is devoted to the history and typology of military tabletop games and their entertaining and educative role in the Russian society of the late 19th – early 20th centuries. The material for the study was cardboard game board editions, punch-out sheets and modeling sheets. The content and ideology of military games are analyzed in comparison with the rendering of the military theme in children’s books and magazines.
