The article presents the main features of the internal environment of the territory, the set of place marketing instruments (product, price, localization, promotion), and the process of introducing place marketing in municipalities. The author assumes that municipalities should update the cultural, social, symbolical assets of the territory, and make use of the "genius loci" principle. It is also proclaimed that place marketing in municipalities should be run with active involvement of the local community. Modern models of networking and interactive marketing are considered.
