Forest landscapes in the russian part of the Green Belt of Fennoscandia: natural features, current state and application // Transactions of Karelian Research Centre of Russian Academy of Science. No 6. Green Belt of Fennoscandia. 2014. Pp. 39-52
Keywords: Green Belt of Fennoscandia, landscapes, forests, spontaneous and anthropogenic dynamics, water protection zones, protected areas.
A brief review of the literature and information sources on the forests of the Green Belt of Fennoscandia is presented in the paper. The main physiogeographic features of the border territory are described. The structure and spontaneous dynamics of the forest landscapes sample areas, uninvolved in the economic activities, was characterized on this basis (using such parameters as territorial distribution, typological structure, productivity, natural fire regimes etc.). The current state of the forest cover was analyzed based on the forest inventory data. Existing regulations, regarding forest categories allocation and allowed modes of use, were outlined. The role of water protection zones as ecological corridors is emphasized. An assessment of natural restoration process in the cutover areas is given. A system of existing and planned environmentally protected sites, supplemented with the map charts for the largest of them, is shown.
