Having employed frontal analysis of data from 15th – 18th century archival and published sources we have for the first time traced the history of the emergence and evolution of the volost and parish landscape of the Kemskaya and Shujeretskaya volosts, which had since 1785 been the main parts of the Kemskiy uezd. The materials were synthesized into schematic maps of the volost and parish division of northern Karelia in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries.
