The paper analyses the multilayered source – memories of people born in the 1920s – early 1930s about their childhood. Not only the details of daily life in the Soviet borderland, its symbolic objects and characters, but also the experience of life, socialization and self-identification of the “children of the frontier” are inscribed in those memories. We consider them with regard to the official frontier-related discourse of the 1930s.
