The paper deals with the problem of localization of the Great Oak, which symbolizes the World tree in Karelian epic songs and spells. According to folklore texts, the symbolic signs of the location in the landscape are water, island/cape, rock/cliff, mount, land, which are often referenced to one another. The paper discloses the semantics of the named loci. Growth of the Great Oak was found to correlate with the act of World Creation.
