The paper presents an analysis of several landscape terms of substrate origin from the Eastern Obonezhje toponymy, which reflect different stages in the ethno-linguistic history of the region. Reconstruction of the distribution ranges of toponymic models facilitates both etymological interpretation of the substratal terms and identification of the main waves of human colonization of Eastern Obonezhje, the ethnic origins of these waves, and the boundaries of the settlement ranges of ethnic groups in the area.
