Keywords: shungite rocks, Maksovo deposit, raw materials, natural composites.
The carbon-rich shungite rocks are unique raw materials since they contain specific fullerene-like carbon and various minerals (mainly quartz, silicates, and sulfides). On the other hand, shungite rocks vary widely in the chemical and mineral composition, which is a hindrance for their utilization in high.tech industries. The paper considers the features of the mineral and chemical composition of the main varieties of shungite rocks from the Maksovo deposit (Zazhoginsky field). Particular attention was paid to the distribution of their various accessory minerals at the micro level. As a result, we suggest distinguishing two types of raw materials in the shungite rocks of the Maksovo deposit.
