This electron microscopy study of phytoplankton from lakes of the Kenti River system has made it possible to identify 173 species and varieties of Bacillariophyta from 56 genera, including 46 new for the flora of Karelia and 16 new for Russia. The greatest species diversity was recorded in lakes Okunevo and Kentо. Asterionella formosa, Aulacoseira ambigua, A. islandica, A. subartica, Cyclotella schumannii, Discostella stelligera, Handmania comta and Tabellaria flocculosa are the most widespread species in the waterbodies under study.
