The study is part of the research into the present-day status of the Zaonezhje Peninsula water bodies, a continuation of the inventory of biological resources of Karelian lakes. The zooplankton species checklist, comprising 112 taxa, is provided for each of the 12 lakes and 6 rivers (rotifers, crustaceans). The dominant complex has a composition typical of boreal fauna. Alongside with oligotrophic lakes (Ladmozero, Putkozero), noted for the presence of the relic crustacean Limnocalanus, the rotifer Notholca and for low plankton numbers, there exist also water bodies (Padmozero, Myagrozero, Yandomozero) featuring abundant Chydorus sphaericus, Asplanchna priodonta, and the highest among all study objects zooplankton development level, characteristic of meso- and eutrophic waters.
