Keywords: Triticum aestivum L.; methyl jasmonate; seeds germination; root growth; shoot growth
The effect of seeds wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) of winter var. Moskovskaya 39 treatment with methyl jasmonate for different durations and concentrations on the germination and the initial growth of seedlings was studiet. The duration of exposure to methyl jasmonate was 3, 6 or 24 hours, concentration ˗ 0.001; 0.01; 0.1 and 1 µM. It is indicated that the period of exposure to methyl jasmonate has a greater effect on seed germination and seedling growth than its concentration. Thus, keeping seeds in a methyl jasmonate solution of all tested concentrations for 3 and 6 hours did not lead to an increase in their germination, while the root length plants grown from treated seeds was less than that of the control ones, and the shoot height, on the contrary, was greater. Treating the seeds with methyl jasmonate of all tested concentrations for 24 hours increased the number of sprouted seeds and slowed down the root growth in seedlings, but did not have any effect on shoot growth comparing to the control plants.
