Новые виды птиц для территории Республики Коми (первая четверть XXI века)
Keywords: birds; new records; Komi Republic; 2000–2025
The article presents data on the distribution of new bird species in the Komi Republic during the first quarter of the 21st century. The region’s avifauna has been enriched by 32 species. Encounters with a majority of these birds are infrequent, categorizing them as vagrants (25 species, 78 %). Notably, over 70 % of such encounters occur during the spring and autumn migratory periods. Seven bird species were observed during the breeding season, including Swinhoe’s Snipe and Black Redstart, who exhibited territorial behaviors. In the past five years, Black Redstarts have been sighted regularly. The most significant alterations in distribution have occurred in five bird species, which have expanded their ranges northwards in the early 21st century and started breeding within the Komi Republic (Pallid Harrier, Marsh Sandpiper, Common Redshank and Water Rail) or appearing there regularly during the breeding season (Black Tern). The northward expansion of these species exemplifies the broader trend of the influx of European and widely distributed Palearctic species advancing toward northern and northeastern regions. Additionally, two species, the Barnacle Goose and the Brent Goose, have been observed passing through the area during migration. The primary migratory routes of Branta geese bypass the region, following the White Sea-Baltic flyway; however, over the past 20 to 25 years, the above-mentioned species have been occasionally documented during migrations in the taiga zone of the Komi Republic.
