Methodological basis of the research was the original classification and the map of geographical landscapes of Karelia designed according to zonal-typological principle. The distribution of various types of taiga landscape and the features of their biogeocenotic structure have been investigated. Zoning of the region has been conducted according to these aspects. Basic, ordinary, original, rare and unique types of forest communities were distinguished by using extensive data on their quantitative and quality characteristics. Presented data are basic for biodiversity investigations at the levels of species and communities.
