The paper deals with the property status of the Karelian peasant woman in the second half of the 19th – early 20th century according to the legislation and customary law. Based on archival materials we analyze particular life situations that characterize the level of legal culture and legal consciousness of the peasant women in the Olonets Province. We try to show the willingness and ability of rural women to assert their rights.
