The paper throws light upon the ethnic aspects of relations between Russian servicemen and inhabitants of the Grand Duchy of Finland in the final period of Finland's autonomy and during the Russian revolution of 1917. The notions of each other, contacts and contradictions between military men and civil population are analyzed. This opens prospects for the study of political culture and military anthropology problems as well as the impact of the military factor upon the way of life in «Our» / «Their» territory as Finland was perceived in the Russian Empire.
