The generation of the superoxide anion in leaves of young Cucumis sativus L., Triticum aestivum L., Zea mays L. exposed to Zn2+, Pb2+, Ni2+ in different concentrations (from 10 μM to 1 mM) was investigated by spectrophotometry. The rate of О2.- generation increased with growing Pb2+ or Ni2+, whereas in the Zn2+ treatment no increase was recorded. Wheat plants were more resistant to heavy metals than cucumber or maize.
