Keywords: stibio-sulphoarsenide-quartz carbonate veins, shear zone, mesothermal conditions, Archaean and Proterozoic complexes, Karelia.
Archaean pyrite ores and Proterozoic auriferous quartz conglomerates are known to occur in the Koikary structure, Central Karelia. A new type of Au-Sb-As-S mineralization in quartz veins, confined to a near-N-S-trending shear zone, was revealed in the Archaean part of the structure. The mineralization is represented by pyrite, arsenopyrite, Fe-Ni-Co-stibio-sulphoarsenides, galena, Ag-Bi-galena, chalcopyrite, sphalerite, pentlandite, bismuth, electrum, kustelite, hauchecornite and matildite which formed under mesothermal conditions (Т = 350–200 оС). The source of their matter was complex. Some of the minerals were found in Karelia for the first time. The metallogenic (gold) potential of the structure could be associated with shear zones saturated with sulphide-quartz veins.
