The paper investigates the living standard through the concept of recreational mobility. Having analysed data from original economic-sociological surveys of urban households in Republic of Karelia based on multivariate statistical methods we have produced a typology of the recreational behavior of economically active population. Four main types of employed population distinguished by the level of socio-economic well-being and effectiveness of recreation have been theoretically substantiated and empirically confirmed. Recommendations to improve the management of the socio-economic development of the region are suggested.
