We analyse the technical and economic indicators and the efficiency of extraction and processing of concentration wastes from the 1st field of the tailings dump of OJSC “Kovdorskiy Mining and Processing Plant”. On the basis of the experience of geological prospecting at an operating tailings dump, elaboration of an integrated processing technology yielding standard iron ore, apatite and baddeleyite concentrates a technical-economic estimation of the efficiency of recycling poorer tailings from the 2nd field of the dump was carried out. As a result, an additional long-term raw material pool in the form of a man-made deposit of over 115 mln tons was prepared for the company, and inferred relatively richer resources of 78.5 mln tons were estimated to be available in the sump pond area inaccessible for geological prospecting.
