Keywords: Picea abies (L.), nitrogen, boron, amino acids, L-arginine
The parameters of growth, nitrogen, boron and free amino acid content in the needles of 5-year-old Norway spruce (Picea abies L.) were studied in relation with nitrogen and boron availability to the plants, the supply of other nutrients being optimal. Growth of the plants was optimized by a nitrogen content of 1.8 % and a boron content of 280 μg•g-1 dry weight in the needles. L-arginine content in the needles increased tens of times upon application of a ten-fold, compared with the optimum, nitrogen dose. The amount of this amino acid in the needles multiplied when the plants were treated with a high dose of boron combined with a low dose of nitrogen.
