A new design of the salmon eggs incubation redd suited to fluvial conditions, fitted with a remote water intake device to feed naturally filtered underflow to the redd was developed and tested (utility model patent № 110229). The incubation chamber had individual wells to hold flow-bathed eggs. The wells were topped with a layer of gravel to simulate fry emergence conditions. The experiment was staged with artificially fertilized land-locked salmon eggs. The trials were carried out in a rapid in the Lizhma River (Lake Onega catchment) and lasted from mid-October to the first ten days of June. The hatching success of viable fry was 83–96 %.
