L.A. Danilevskaya. Quartz raw material of Karelia region // Proceedings of Karelian Research Centre of RAS. Issue 9. Petrozavodsk: KarRC RAS, 2006. P. 50–66
The article contains the results of analysis of raw quartz of different genetic types that can be found in three macrostructures in Karelia: the Belomorski mobile belt, the Karelian craton and Svecofennian geological block. It shows the diversity of genetic types of quartz formations in the territory of Karelia. The quartz-containing rocks (metosomatites)
and recrystallized quartzites have been studied as potential sources of quartz
material of various applications. The typical mineralogical-petrographical and geochemical specific features of different genetic types of quartz formations in the territory of Karelia depending on the conditions of their geological formation have been analyzed. A special attention has been given to investigation of the typomorphic properties of quartz which is an important preliminary assessment of washability of the quartz material, of selection of the processing technology and rejection of the material that is unsuitable for separation. A comprehensive approach is demonstrated in investigation of the
typomorphic properties of quartz of different genetic types which permits not only to characterize the specific features of the raw quartz but also to forecast the quality of the quartz concentrates.
