Nowadays the term "Ecology" has a range of meanings that sometimes are even unrelated. From a scientific point of view, ecology is a study of interactions among organisms, communities and their environment. This area of human knowledge has been developing rapidly especially since the end of the 20th century, moreover the amount of obtained information has been growing exponentially. The applied aspects of ecology such as nature conservation and environmental management should not be underestimated either. It is no mere chance that a wide range of ecology related issues has been included in the main areas of fundamental research of RAS. An increasing number of works on this topic has resulted in the formation of a separate series of the Transactions of KarRC of RAS addressing ecological studies in particular.

Interactions among living organisms and the environment, structure and dynamics of natural and anthropogenic ecosystems, and the impact of external factors upon them are topical issues of contemporary ecological studies carried out by many scientific institutions of the Russian North and adjacent areas.

Our Journal publishes the results of original studies in the field of ecological science. Our priority issues include ecology of terrestrial and aquatic communities, primarily in the forest zone of Eurasia, but we also accept works on population ecology, historical ecology and applied aspects of ecological knowledge.
